Pick your van below and we will fill in the connection height. This is the key measurement that decides whether an awning will actually fit.
How to measure your connection height: On level ground, measure vertically from the ground up to the awning rail (or connection point) on the side of your van. If your van sits nose-down on the drive, use the higher of the two ends.
If this is your first campervan awning, do not measure the whole van length or the top of the roof. The awning connects to one fixing point, so the height of that rail or canopy is what matters.
Your caravan's awning rail
All touring caravans have an awning rail fitted. For OLPRO porch awnings, we need the rail height and enough straight rail length for the awning body.
Looking for a full awning (A-measurement sizing)?▼
Traditional full caravan awnings (Isabella, Dorema etc.) use the A-measurement -- the distance from the ground, up and around the awning rail channel, and back to the ground on the other side. It is measured in sizes like 825cm, 900cm, up to 1125cm.
OLPRO does not sell full awnings. Our caravan range is lightweight porch and tunnel style -- the kind that slides into your 6mm rail, takes about 10 minutes to pitch, and lets you use the awning as extra living space. It is lighter, simpler, and far easier to use than a full awning.
If that sounds like what you need, keep going. We size by your rail height and the straight rail length available for the awning.
Most caravans measure 235-250cm. If you are unsure, a tape measure from the ground to the metal channel running along the side will give you an accurate reading.
Measure the straight section of rail where the awning can sit. The View Lite 390 range needs roughly 390cm of straight rail, so very short caravans may not be suitable.
How will it attach to your vehicle?
This tells us which drive-away kit you will need and how the awning connects. Pick what matches your vehicle -- or use the helper below if you are not sure.
Caravan awnings attach to the awning rail already fitted to your caravan, so we have selected awning rail for you.
Awning railA channel or slot running along the side of your van or roof edge.✓
Gutter railA raised lip or drip-rail along the roofline that you can clip onto.✓
Wind-out canopyA built-in roller canopy (Fiamma, Thule, Omnistore etc.) already fitted to the van.✓
No rail / smooth roofNothing there -- smooth roof, no channel, no gutter, no canopy.✓
What's an awning rail?▼
An awning rail (also called a Swift rail or caravan rail) is a metal channel with a 6mm slot, usually bolted along the upper side panel or roofline of your van. You slide beading from the awning into this slot. It gives the most secure, wind-resistant attachment.
What's a gutter rail?▼
A gutter rail is a raised metal channel that runs along the roof edge and channels rainwater away. Common on older Transit vans, motorhomes, and some campervans. You clip a figure-of-8 connector onto it to hang the awning. It is a different shape to an awning rail -- more of a raised lip than a slot.
What's a wind-out canopy?▼
A wind-out (or roll-out) canopy is a pre-fitted retractable awning in a cassette bolted to the side of the van -- brands include Fiamma, Thule, and Omnistore. It already gives you quick shade; an OLPRO drive-away awning clips onto the front rail of the canopy when you want a bigger enclosed living area.
What if I have nothing?▼
No problem. If your van has no rail or canopy, OLPRO awnings can attach using throw-over straps (included with most models) that loop over the roof, or a magnetic kit for steel roofs. It is the simplest attachment method and works on virtually any van.
Look at the upper side of your van and pick what you see:
